And the Oscar goes to...

Early Tuesday morning, when most of us were still sound asleep in LA, the nominees for the 82nd Academy Awards were announced. There were some surprises, and a few upsets. Many were shocked by the inclusion of District 9 into the best picture category, and indie film lovers were upset with the complete non-existence of (500) Days of Summer. This is the first time since 1944 that ten films have been nominated in the best picture category. Casablanca was the last film to take home a victory in the ten-film format. Avatar, Up in the Air and The Hurt Locker are all close favorites for the big win. Check out http://oscar.go.com/nominations/nominees for a complete list of the nominees.

This year Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will co-host the awards live on March 7th. Set your TIVOs, or gather with a group of film enthusiasts; it’s going to be an exciting night.

I have a lot of movie watching to do in the next month!
