Thanks for the nod, LA Times!

Last week, Trio Films was mentioned in a LA Times article about going green on location. The article discussed the importance of being environmentally friendly while shooting. Many productions are doing their part by using solar powered or biodiesel powered generators, switching to reusable water bottles, using biodegradable plates and utensils and composting waste. These new practices are being used by film, television, and commercial productions in the Los Angeles area. Now is the time to hop on the green bandwagon and do something great for the Earth!

Super Bowl Ads

Every year, we greatly anticipate the Super Bowl ads. Even if you’re not interested in football, it’s always entertaining to watch a violin playing beaver. How can you not get behind that? There were many commercials dedicated to bringing out the manliness in men, some pants optional spots, others starring animals, beer commercials aplenty, and even Betty White joined the fun by being tackled into a puddle of mud for a Snickers spot. Lots of ads urged you to visit websites to resolve a nail-biting cliffhanger. Over lunch, we discussed some of our favorite spots. Many enjoyed the simplicity of the Google Parisian love spot and others liked the cute E*trade talking baby ads. Again, I’m sticking with my fiddle playing beaver. Doritos had a few creative spots that were chosen through a competition. A few film trailers including Robin Hood, Shutter Island, The Back-up Plan and The Wolfman ran as well. All in all, it was a very exciting and unpredictable day, both for football fans and commercial viewers.

And the Oscar goes to...

Early Tuesday morning, when most of us were still sound asleep in LA, the nominees for the 82nd Academy Awards were announced. There were some surprises, and a few upsets. Many were shocked by the inclusion of District 9 into the best picture category, and indie film lovers were upset with the complete non-existence of (500) Days of Summer. This is the first time since 1944 that ten films have been nominated in the best picture category. Casablanca was the last film to take home a victory in the ten-film format. Avatar, Up in the Air and The Hurt Locker are all close favorites for the big win. Check out http://oscar.go.com/nominations/nominees for a complete list of the nominees.

This year Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will co-host the awards live on March 7th. Set your TIVOs, or gather with a group of film enthusiasts; it’s going to be an exciting night.

I have a lot of movie watching to do in the next month!
